Fitness Employment & Certification

Joining a campus recreation fitness team is a fantastic way to stay active, build leadership skills, and connect with a community that shares your passion for health and wellness. As a personal trainer, you’ll gain valuable experience in designing customized workouts and helping others reach their fitness goals. As a group fitness instructor, you’ll lead dynamic classes, inspire and motivate participants, and develop strong group leadership skills. Plus, you’ll make lasting friendships and boost your resume with skills that employers value!

All RSOP staff gain exclusive access to our NASM ClubConnect Educational Platform, offering nationally accredited certifications at a hugely discounted rate. You can get your AFAA Group Fitness Certification for just $179 and NASM Personal Training Certification for $199, along with free CEUs and various workshops throughout your employment with us. Interested in joining our team? Reach out to the Operations and Fitness Coordinator, Sara Weidemann, at [email protected] or join us for one of our informational sessions in November.

Common Question: How does the hiring process for joining the RSOP fitness team work?
We start by hosting informational sessions every fall, with specific dates for November coming soon. If you’re interested after attending one of these sessions, you can participate in our volunteer mentorship program during the spring semester. During this mentorship, we’ll match you with a peer mentor who is a current group fitness instructor or personal trainer. You’ll have the opportunity to attend classes, shadow personal training sessions, and complete our mandatory foundations training. If it feels like the right fit, we’ll hold auditions at the end of March or early April. To finalize your hiring, you must pass your certification exam, as all our personal trainers and group fitness instructors are required to be nationally certified.
