KIDSROCK SUMMER CAMP STAFF OPPORTUNITIES

The RSOP Youth Program is looking for goofy, fun-loving students to join the UMD KIDSROCK summer camp counselor staff! Positions:

Youth Camp Supervisor/Trainer
$16.50/hr

The RSOP offers UMD KIDSROCK camps during ten weeks of summer, June through August. This rewarding opportunity will give you a chance to create age appropriate group activities, provide dynamic programming, and interact with a diverse group of local youth. Supervisors will assist the KIDSROCK Coordinators in hiring, training and supervising camp staff, who then educate, program and lead local youth in fun outdoor and indoor adventures. As a KIDSROCK Supervisor you will have a unique opportunity to work in a fun environment, with other amazing staff members, while developing your own youth leadership skills and management experience.

Duties and Responsibilities
-Participate in Spring Camp Preparation: Beginning February 2021 (up to 20 hours per week)
-Participate in Training and Camp weeks: June 1st – August 21st (up to 40 hours per week)
-Assist in creating and implementing camp staff training as well as hiring of camp staff for summer 2021
-Help establish, enforce and abide by UMD KIDSROCK Staff expectations
-Ensure the health and safety of campers while adhering to camp rules and program guidelines
-Under the direction of Camp Coordinators supervise, discipline and evaluate all camp staff

Required Qualifications
-Current student at the U of MN (UMD) with or without work study
-Certified in Adult CPR/AED (RSOP can provide training)
-Ability to manage your own schedule and show up on time
-Experience planning activities for children ages 5-15
-Ability to problem-solve under pressure and manage conflict
-An understanding of youth development
-Ability to respond to and assist with medical emergencies
-An understanding of risk management with minors
-Must pass Safety of Minors and motor vehicle background check if not already complete for current position

Preferred Qualifications
-Specialty certifications such as lifeguard, water safety instructor, climbing, guiding, etc
-Previous experience supervising student staff and working with children ages 8-15
-Supervisory experience in or around child-centered programs
-An understanding of staff management and scheduling
-An understanding of the Duluth area (bike routes, river accesses, hiking trails, outdoor climbing sites, etc.)
-Ability to create and use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Google Suite applications
-Ability to communicate effectively to camp coordinators, parents and other staff members.

GROUP LEAD
Starting $16.00

Enjoy a summer of teaching, programming and leading youth in fun outdoor and indoor adventures. This rewarding opportunity will give you a chance to create age appropriate group activities, provide dynamic programming, and interact with a diverse group of local youth. The RSOP Youth Services Program offers UMD KIDSROCK camps during nine weeks of the summer. As a KIDSROCK Staff Lead, you will have a unique opportunity to work in a fun environment, with other amazing staff members, while developing your own youth leadership skills and experiences. This position also provides the opportunity to gain experience supervising other staff counselors.

Duties and Responsibilities
-Complete 30-40 hour per week of work; 8 hours per day; Monday – Friday
-Abide by and reinforce established UMD KIDSROCK Staff expectations
-Supervise children (5-15 years old) in small groups and large groups
-Organize and lead an assortment of activities through the weeks of camp
-Oversee a small group of staff counselors and provide support to the Camp Supervisor
-Ensuring the health and safety of campers while adhering to camp rules and program guidelines.
-Collaborate with other counselors in developing special event programming (theme week events) and administer activities in the designed theme of the week.

Required Qualifications
-Current student at the U of MN (UMD) with or without work study
-Certified in Adult CPR/AED (RSOP can provide training)
-Previous leadership experience working with children 5-12 years old
-Ability to problem-solve under pressure and manage conflict
-Ability to communicate verbally with other staff, supervisors, and parents/guardians
-Must pass Safety of Minors and motor vehicle background check

Preferred Qualifications
-Ability to create and teach new activities and games to children
-Ability to problem-solve and complete tasks in a timely manner
-Ability to respond to and assist with medical emergencies
   
CAMP COUNSELORS (Specialists)
Starting $15.50, 13-17 positions available
